Safe and Together

Authors note:

I made this story so long ago that I can’t remember much from it. But please bear with me and try to make it readable.

“That’s enough, Naru.” He backed a step away, “What’s wrong?” Naru sighed and picked up an orange leaf on the ground. She knew telling him would scare him, she could feel it. Her cold finger tips touched the leaf as she shook coldly on the sidewalk. Cars going about eighty miles an hour zoomed past them. Her breath showing in the cold air. “Keitaro, I.” She stopped suddenly and looked above her, only able to see the dark nightly sky, “I’m sorry but. But I don’t think I’m able to tell you.” She stepped forward, “And I’ve been running for too long. I will show you my strength…” She paused for a long moment as she looked up and smiled, “Only for you. Until I am worthy enough.” Her brown striped skirt fluttered in the wind, her strands of hair waved around like crazy. She slowly turned and walked down the hard sidewalk, waiting for him to grab her wrist, say ‘Me too”, and kiss her. But it didn’t happen. He kept staring up in the sky wondering what she meant by that.

Don’t do it Naru, don’t look back. He’ll only stop thinking. I want him to think on it. Naru leaned down and moved a layer of snow out of the way. She picked up a red leaf and smiled, “Don’t forget this day, Keitaro.” She said it loud enough that he could only hear her say ‘don’t forget’. Don’t forget…

She woke up laying on the side of the sidewalk, she was in a dead end area with her head against the brick wall. “Hey.” Keitaro waved his hand in front of her face and smiled. “Gah!” Naru yelled in a sharp tone as she scrambled backwards. Her head hit the brick roughly as she started to rub her pain-filled head, “Please don’t do that.” She rubbed her eyes and looked up, her eyes starting to widen, “Keitaro? W. what are you doing here?!” She got up quickly and put her sweatshirt around her, “You are so perverted!” She raised her hand in the air and slapped his face, “You know better not to go up to a lady wearing her nightgown!” Keitaro’s eyes were wide as his head was turned the other side, he sat there, frozen, having no idea of what happened. He finally got up slowly and put his right hand on the brick wall, the sharpness made his hand feel like needles were being shot through it, “Naru, tell me what’s wrong.” He closed his eyes and sighed as Naru jumped up and walked ahead of him, “None of your buisness.” Keitaro sighed, “Fine. I’m going in that Coffee Shoppe over there.” He pointed forward to ‘Da La Coffee’. “If you want to get changed you might want to now.” Naru sighed as he walked away, hands in his pockets, and whistling. I don’t know how to tell him the truth. Him suspecting something, not a good idea at all. She sat down and pulled out a Violin, I can’t believe it. It’s like a distant memory. All I remember of myself is a song and my name. She began to play Zelda’s Lullaby on her Violin. Each bit of the song reminded her of her memory. The only thing in her head was a picture of a dream.

The dream of where Keitaro was sitting next to her, talking about music. She was smiling and had a beautiful light green dress on. She almost didn’t look like herself. She had a flower pin that pulled her hair a bit back, a little strand of blonde hair hung between her eyes. Her eyes were a beautiful light green color. Her perfect body shown like a beautiful glamour. Sparkles fluttered around her when she smiled with her mouth closed. Keitaro stopped, he got up and raised his hand in the air, Naru got up slowly and closed her eyes, waiting for a slap. But it didn’t come. Suddenly in her dream her hair became short and green, a man grabbed Keitaro by the wrist and punched him in the nose. Blood dripped off his cheek as he began to cry, he couldn’t stop. Then she woke up.

“Huh huh?!” Naru shook her head continuisly trying to figure out what happened. “Ah ah aa!” She got up quickly and noticed that the Coffee Shoppe was empty and closed. What happened to me? I was just playing Zelda’s Lullaby and now I’m trying to find out what happened. Naru got up, pulled a pair of pants on, and put a shirt over her head. “Keitaro!” She yelled out on the side of the street with her hands cupped around her mouth. A woman with a crying baby in one arm and a child in the other ran through the sidewalk and around Naru. Naru ran down the sidewalk yelling out Keitaro’s name. She looked through a window and saw two men sitting in a seat, having a cup of black coffee. The snowy dark night chilled Naru, she could feel the numbness around her. The flashy neon lights around her shining ‘MERRY CHRISTMAS’ everywhere. The darkness above her, the frozen things that she owned in her backpack, she looked to her left and saw a forest. “What are you doing here?” A voice said in a harsh commanding voice. She looked up and saw an Air Force commander staring down at her. He had black smooth hair, and an honest face, “Tell me where Keitaro is.” The Commander grabbed her hand tightly, “Leave before your parents get worried.” He began to comit pressure to her hand, “Or suffer the consequences.” He grinned evily as he threw her to the ground. “Ah! Get away from me you monster!” Naru began to scramble away quickly and ran acrossed the street, making cars hit their breaks making sure she didn’t get hit. She got to the Coffee Shoppe and put her white-gloved hands on the windows, her breathe was a rough, and her heart was beating fast. The cold air followed with her breathe, and the cold and wetness made her shake. When hours past through the cold and bitterness a blizzard came through the town, trees started to sway back and forth, people began running out of the cold, but Naru stood there holding onto a metal pole. The wind was forcing her off her grasp. But she clutched the pole tightly, because she didn’t know where to run, she had no where to go. Men and women and children ran past her, Keitaro was running down the street, huffing out air. He was exhausted and stopped beside her, “Naru get out of here!” He yelled with his hands on his knees. “You’re going to die if you don’t go!” Naru gasped and picked up a rock with her bare hand, “No!” She threw it at the Coffee Shoppe window making it break open. Keitaro grabbed her by the shoulders, “What are you doing?!” Naru punched through the glass and jumped inside the building, “If you don’t want me to die then follow me.” She ran inside the kitchen and turned on the stove.

The heat was so terrible it pierced her skin, making her jump back in Keitaro’s cold arms. They were meant to be together, and she knew it. That was when she turned to him and smiled.
